Original painting, 2023, 11x14x1.5 in, oil on canvas, impasto texture.

According to Windham and historian Daniel Barefoot, Martha had come to Huntington from New York in the late nineteenth century, while the college was still located in the town of Tuskegee, Alabama.

Being a stranger and shy, Martha could not make friends and finally committed suicide by slashing her wrists. She was found in her room, dressed in red. It was long time ago, but students at Huntingdon have alleged that Red Lady returns to haunt the corridors of Pratt Hall. Students have reported seeing Martha's ghost on Pratt Hall's fourth floor, pass through walls or closed doors and sometimes on the stairs.
